| Include Gujori in 8th Schedule: Gujjars to CM | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT SRINAGAR, June 12: The Gujjars of Jammu and Kashmir today submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to recommend inclusion of Gojri in to the Eighth schedule of India constitution. The memorandum has signed by all the prominent writers, poets and intellectuals of the language sent to States Chief Minister through Tribal Research and Cultural Foundation a National Organisation working on Indian Tribes with special focus on Gujjars. They have sought the immediate intervention of Government of Jammu and Kashmir to recommend the case of largest spoken Tribal Language of J&K "Gojri" to Center for inclusion in the list of official languages of India. They also urged the CM to treat speakers of Gojri as "Ethno-Linguistic Minority" in the State and provide constitutional safeguards to their language "Gojri" National Secretary of the Foundation Dr. Javaid Rahi has said here that Gojri has a strong case for inclusion in the eighth scheduled of Indian Constitution. . Being a vibrant Literary tradition the Gojri has been recognised as a Tribal language of India by the National Academy of Letters viz "Sahitya Academy", Said Rahi added that this one of the oldest and significant languages of the South Asian sub-continent , spoken by Gujjar Tribe-a ethno- linguistic minority of the state, has locus Sandi for its inclusion in the 8th Schedule as there is an adequate provision and facilities in Indian Constitution for linguistic minorities . He further added according to current analysis Gojri language is the first language of 20 million of people in South Asia including India , Pakistan and Afghanistan, a good chunk of them live in Jammu and Kashmir state. It is easily understood and spoken by the people belonging to other linguistic groups as well but has not been given due recognition for unspecified reasons. The memorandum further said several pleas by the groups and individuals espousing the cause have failed to convince the political leadership for inclusion of Gojri in the eighth schedule of the constitution of India thus giving the language the recognition it deserves since very long.The memorandum futher sought the help of Kashmiri, Dogri and linguistic groups, political parties, social organisations in this justified cause of tribal population of the state.After Kashmiri and Dogri both included in the 8th Schedualed Gojri is thrid largest spoken languages in Jammu and Kashmir State.
