SRINAGAR, July 23: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference President Dr. Farooq Abdullah and Vice President and Hon'ble Chief Minister Omar Abdullah Thursday paid rich tributes to veteran political leader and former Minister, late Ghulam Nabi Wani Sogami, on his 45th death anniversary.
Remembering late Sogami's immense contribution to public life, the duo described him as a selfless leader, an able administrator and a committed public servant who dedicated his life to the welfare of the people. They recalled his humility, integrity and close bond with the masses, particularly the people of Kupwara and Lolab. They prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and the highest place in Jannat.
Among those who also paid glowing tributes were National Conference General Secretary Haji Ali Mohammad Sagar, Additional General Secretary and Rajya Sabha MP Choudhary Mohammad Ramzan, Treasurer and Rajya Sabha MP Shammi Oberoi, Chief Spokesperson Tanvir Sadiq, Member of Parliament Mian Altaf Ahmad, Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary, Cabinet Ministers Sakina Itoo, Javed Ahmad Dar, Javed Rana and Satish Sharma.
A commemorative function was held at Sogam in Kupwara to mark the occasion, where party leaders and workers fondly remembered the late leader's outstanding contribution to politics and public service. The speakers described Sogami as a grassroots leader who devoted his life to the upliftment of the poor and the development of the border district.
They recalled his pivotal role in the construction of irrigation canals and embankments across Sogam and Lolab and his notable contributions as Minister for Forests. They said his legacy of honesty, accessibility and public service continues to inspire generations and remains deeply cherished by the people of the region.
Earlier, floral tributes were offered and special prayers were held at the late leader's grave at Sogam, Lolab, in the presence of senior party functionaries, local office-bearers and workers. |
