| District Rajouri tourney starts today | | |
Early Times Report JAMMU, June 13: First ever district level cricket tournaments, organised by Jammu wing of the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) shall start tomorrow with the holding of District Rajouri Tournament at Sports Stadium, Rajouri. The knockout competition shall be declared open by the District Development Commissioner, J P Singh at 9 am tomorrow. “Divided into four different pools, the 16 participating teams play knock-out competition in their respective pools. The second round will be of semi-finals with topper from each pool finding berth in the last four stages,” convenor of the Rajouri District Tournament Committee, Ravi Singh told SAN. “The first round shall be of 30 overs a side, followed by the 35 overs game in the semi-finals. The final will be of 40 overs match,” informed Singh. Earlier, the Jammu wing of the JKCA handed over the required sports material to the Cricket Committee for holding the event. “We have handed over the required material, comprised of 16 different items for use during the competition to the District Committee. As also an advance financial assistance of Rs 30,000 has also been given to the Committee,” joint secretary Jammu wing of JKCA, Sudershan Mehta told SAN. The sports material included cricket bats, balls, practice nets and complete kits besides prizes. “We have advised the Cricket Committee to keep the sports material with them after the tournament is over for use in camps to be organised by JKCA at district level,” said Mehta.
