By functioning as a regional hub, it will coordinate weather observations, forecasting, warnings, and climate services for the entire northwestern Himalayan belt. The centre will provide—early warning of flash floods, avalanche forecasting, cloudburst alerts, landslide warnings, severe thunderstorms monitoring and heavy snowfall predictions. Better services for Farmers---Agriculture in Jammu and Kashmir is the main stay of the people and agriculture in J &K and HP depends heavily on weather conditions. This, will help farmers make informed decisions regarding sowing, irrigation, harvesting, and crop protection. Benefits for Tourism---The Himalayan region attracts millions of tourists from India and abroad every year. The, centre will issue—tourist weather advisories, mountain weather forecasts, snowfall predictions and road -condition related weather alerts.
