Protests in PoJK reveal true face of occupied land: Senior Youth Leader NCP Er. Rishi Kilam
7/30/2026 10:12:49 PM
Early Times Report

JAMMU, July 30: As civil unrest and widespread public demonstrations continue across Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK), senior political leader and National spokesperson youth NCP Er. Rishi Kilam has sharply criticized the Pakistani administration’s handling of the crisis, calling out systemic human rights violations and the denial of basic rights to the region’s residents.
Kilam highlighted key grievances driving the local populace, including control over local natural resources and representation rights.
Severe Crackdown and Human Rights Violations
Commenting on the civilian casualties during the month-long protests—which have now stretched past 50 days Kilam expressed deep condolences to the affected families while condemning the violent crackdown by security forces.
First of all, to those who were martyred or lost their lives there as victims of human rights violations.I personally offer my deep condolences to their families. The loss of human life is an irreparable loss. First, we condemn these acts. Kilam contrasted the political narrative of so called “Azad Kashmir” with the reality faced by its residents, noting that key demands regarding local resources remain unaddressed after nearly eight decades.
“What are their demands? They aren’t new; they have existed for 77 years,”Kilam stated. “They demand rights over their own resources—like the water from Mangla Dam, which generates electricity, 90% of which is sold across Pakistan.Don’t they have the right to benefit from the resources extracted from their own land? Shouldn’t they receive relief in electricity tariffs?”
Disenfranchisement and ‘Imported’ Governance
Addressing the political structure in PoJK, Kilam criticized the reservation of 12 legislative seats for refugees outside the region, alleging that it serves as a mechanism for external control by the Pakistani establishment rather than genuine democratic representation.
“Have you ever seen a state or country anywhere in the world where imported legislators are brought in and placed in power?”kilam questioned, pointing out that key administrative positions—from the Prime Minister and President down to local Deputy Commissioners—are routinely controlled by individuals aligned with the central establishment rather than local interests.
Addressing the stark difference in governance between both sides of the Line of Control (LoC), Kilam added:
