Pondicherry University organises Refresher Course in Chemistry

NEW DELHI, July 30: The UGC-Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Centre (MMTTC), Pondicherry University, inaugurated a 12-day Refresher Course in Chemistry 2026 at the University campus. The programme is aimed at enhancing the subject knowledge, teaching methodologies, and research capabilities of faculty members from universities and colleges across the country.
The inaugural function was graced by the Hon'ble Vice-Chancellor of Pondicherry University, Prof. P. Prakash Babu, who delivered the Presidential Address. Prof. Samar K. Das, J. C. Bose National Fellow and Dean, School of Chemistry, University of Hyderabad, was the Chief Guest and delivered the inaugural address. The programme was coordinated by Prof. M. Bakthadoss, Professor, Department of Chemistry, Pondicherry University.
Welcoming the gathering, Prof. P. G. Arul, Director (i/c), UGC-Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Centre, Pondicherry University, highlighted the various faculty development programmes being organised by the Centre in alignment with the objectives of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. He appreciated the continuous support and guidance provided by the Hon'ble Vice-Chancellor in strengthening academic initiatives and faculty development activities at the University.
In his Presidential Address, Prof. P. Prakash Babu emphasised that continuous learning is an essential professional responsibility for teachers, particularly in the rapidly evolving field of science. He highlighted the importance of refresher programmes in updating knowledge, improving pedagogical practices, and strengthening research capabilities. He encouraged the participants to actively interact with eminent resource persons, develop academic collaborations, and make effective use of the opportunities provided through such programmes.
The Vice-Chancellor appreciated the efforts of the UGC-MMTTC team in conducting several academic programmes throughout the year and noted that the Centre has emerged as an important platform for faculty development. He also highlighted the multidisciplinary nature of Pondicherry University and its initiatives towards implementing academic reforms under NEP 2020.
Addressing the gathering, Chief Guest Prof. Samar K. Das congratulated the participants for attending the programme in physical mode from different parts of the country and stressed the importance of lifelong learning for teachers. He highlighted that chemistry continues to be a central science with significant contributions to diverse areas such as materials science, sustainable energy, nanotechnology, and interdisciplinary research.
Prof. Das emphasised the importance of innovative teaching practices and encouraged teachers to continuously update themselves. He highlighted that an effective teacher should inspire students through proper preparation, dedication, and meaningful classroom engagement. He also encouraged the participants to develop collaborations, share research facilities, and promote interdisciplinary approaches in chemistry education and research.
