| Five arrested in JU examination scandal | | | Early Times Report Jammu, June 13
The tale of marks on sale in the University of Jammu has underwent another twist with the arrest of five employees of the varsity by the Police on the allegation of giving undue advantage to some candidates by tampering/altering marks in records of Jammu University and providing fake documents/certificates to them after taking money. During the late hours on 06.06.2009 Police Station Gandhi Nagar reliably learnt that one Gopal Kumar S/o Lt. Kartar Chand R/o Digiana Ashram Jammu was giving undue advantage to the candidates by tampering/altering marks in records of Jammu University and providing fake documents/certificates to them after taking money with the help his associates. On this case FIR No. 174/09 u/s 420/467/468/471/34/RPC was registered at P/S Gandhi Nagar and investigation was entrusted to SDPO City West Jammu. During the course of investigation answer sheets, award rolls and marks file were seized and alteration was detected in records, there was over writing/tempering in few records and some of the marks in the file were found to have been changed. The five arrested persons are Gopal Kumar @ Kuki S/o Lt. Kartar Chand Caste Bhagat R/o Digiana Ashram Jammu a Daily Wager working in JU as Packer Part-II. Sanjay Kumar @ Sanju S/o Om Parkash Sharma R/o Machhlian Nagbani, Akhnoor Road, Jammu a Daily Wager working as Packer Part-II. Tilak Raj Goswami S/o Ayudhya Kumar Goswami R/o Village Mansar, Tehsil and District Samba A/P Quarter 35/E Jammu University New Campus a Daily Wager working as Packer Part-I. Tarsem Paul S/o Raghunath Dass Sharma R/o W.No. 4, Samba the then coding Assistant Part-II Bi-Annual Exam A/P Head Assistant Examination Department Jammu University. Sunil Kumar Sharma S/o Geeta Ram Sharma R/o Chack Jagar, Nagbani Jammu. Working as Library Attendant, Jammu University. The investigation in the matter is on and it is expected that there will be more arrests soon. It is pertinent to mention that the State Vigilance Organization is also investigating an Examination Scam in the JU for which an Internal Enquiry Committee was also formulated by the Vice Chancellor of the University of Jammu. The recent scam which was unearthed by an officer of the Examination wing was when reported to the Vice Chancellor he formulated a two member internal enquiry committee to look into the matter. But later the SVO intervened into the matter and the investigation is on. The SVO till now has seized some documents and records from the Examination Wing and has also questioned three JU employees. The JU Internal Enquiry Committee has already submitted its report but the JU authorities seems to be keeping the matter within the boundaries of the varsity and so have not disclosed the findings and even the State Vigilance Organization has not reveled the development in the investigation till now. It is expected that the arrest of the above mention suspects may result in to the exposure of all the aspects of the Examination scams in JU. According to sources some senior functionaries are also suspected to be involved in the Scam. The University authorities till now have not commented upon the matter.
