JAMMU, Aug 4: The Jammu Municipal Corporation convened a comprehensive capacity building session today at its headquarters to streamline field operations and enforce compliance under the newly introduced Solid Waste Management Rules 2026. The session was conducted to align field functionaries with urban cleanliness targets and was attended by the Health Officer, Sanitation Officer, Assistant Sanitation Officers, Sanitary Inspectors, and Sanitary Supervisors representing Zone-I, Zone-II, and Zone-III.
The primary focus of the capacity building session centered on operationalizing the key provisions of the new Solid Waste Management Rules 2026 across all administrative zones of Jammu city. Discussions highlighted the critical need for strengthening four-bin waste segregation at the source, implementing scientific waste collection and processing, improving real-time monitoring, and ensuring strict enforcement of sanitation norms. Officials were thoroughly sensitized regarding their specific operational roles and responsibilities to guarantee seamless execution across every ward.
During the detailed session, field officers were instructed to optimize daily door-to-door waste collection routes while enforcing segregation into wet, dry, hazardous, and sanitary waste streams. Strict directives were issued to prevent littering, eradicate identified Garbage Vulnerable Points, and accelerate citizen grievance redressal through enhanced coordination among field staff. The chair emphasized that field functionaries must intensity ward-level community awareness drives regarding source segregation and home composting to achieve sustainable urban sanitation standards.
This capacity building session serves as an operational cornerstone for the city's broader August Swachhata Action Plan. The learnings and directives from today's program will directly feed into upcoming field execution drives, including hands-on training workshops for Safaimitras, the establishment of Model Segregation Colonies across all zones, and youth-led awareness drives in commercial hubs to eliminate single-use plastics.
