| AIIMS Jammu achieves another milestone in cardiac care with first CRT-D implantation | | |  Early Times Report
JAMMU, Aug 4: In another major step forward for cardiac care in Jammu and Kashmir, the Department of Cardiology at the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Vijaypur, Jammu, has successfully performed its first Cardiac Resynchronization Therapy Defibrillator (CRT-D) implantation.
The procedure was conducted by Dr. Zubair Farooq and Dr. Mayank Saini, Assistant Professors in the Department of Cardiology, with essential technical and patient-care support from the Cath Lab's nursing and technical staff.
CRT-D is a specialized therapy designed for patients living with advanced heart failure who continue to experience severe symptoms despite being on optimal medication. The small device helps the heart pump more efficiently by synchronizing its beats, while continuously monitoring the heart rhythm to deliver instant protection against life-threatening cardiac events.
This achievement marks another step in the department's effort to build a comprehensive cardiology center at AIIMS Jammu. Since opening its Cath Lab, the cardiology team has completed nearly 300 procedures, bringing a wide range of modern interventions to the region, including:
Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI)
Image-Guided Coronary Angioplasty (PCI) using IVUS and OCT, including complex bifurcation and Left Main (LM) PCIs
Calcium Modification using Intravascular Lithotripsy (IVL)
High-Risk Assisted PCIs with Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump (IABP) support
Electrophysiological (EP) Studies and Ablations for heart rhythm conditions
