Early Times Report
Srinagar, June 14: Buoyed by the success of their week long protest programme, the Hurriyat Conference led by Syed Ali Shah Geelani on Sunday issued fresh programme urging traders, transports and women to stage peaceful demonstrations across the valley.
In a statement, Hurriyat Conference (G) Acting Chairman, Ghulam Nabi Sumbji urged the valley traders and unions to stage peaceful demonstrations at 1400 hours on Monday. On Tuesday afternoon, he asked the transporters including bus, sumo and auto drivers to hold peaceful protests.
“The women are requested to stage peaceful demonstrations on Wednesday afternoon. Zamrooda Habib and Fareeda Behanji will lead protest demonstrations at Lal Chowk on the same day,” Sumbji said.
“On Thursday, peaceful demonstrations should be held across the valley to express solidarity with the pro-freedom leaders and to protest the continued detention of Syed Ali Shah Geelani and other political prisoners,” he added.
Acting Chairman said that on Friday people should march to Baramulla where a protest rally will be taken out. On Saturday, complete shutdown should be observed to protest the waywardness and immorality spread by the University of Kashmir on the pretext of cultural programmes.
Earlier, the meeting of Hurriyat’s advisory council (Majils-e-Shaura) was held and the prevailing situation in wake of the Shopian dual rape and murder were discussed thread barely. The meeting was chaired by Acting Chairman of Hurriyat conference (G) Ghulam Nabi Sumbji and was attended by the representatives of Hurriyat allies.
Hurriyat Conference, Spokesman, Ayaz Akbar told Press Bureau of India that the rampant use of Armed forces special powers act (AFSPA), PSA also figured in the meeting and the participants expressed concern over the silence of human rights organization over the continued and illegal detention of Syed Ali Shah Geelani and other pro-freedom leaders.
“The meeting expressed concern over the silence of human rights champions. On the name of democracy, small girls are being raped and murdered by the force. Criminal silence is being observed by the government on the fate of thousands of people who have gone missing,” Akbar said.
