Early Times Report

JAMMU, Aug 9: The All State Kashmiri Pandit Conference (ASKPC) held an emergency meeting today at the Community Hall, Muthi Phase, Jammu, under the presidentship of Sh. Moti Lal Malla, to express deep concern over the reported circulation of a threatening letter allegedly targeting individuals, their families and specific locations, including Kashmiri Pandit employees serving in the Kashmir Valley.
The meeting expressed serious apprehension over the contents of the reported letter. If found to be genuine, the matter constitutes a grave security concern and a direct challenge to the authority of the Government, the security establishment and the rule of law.
ASKPC strongly urged the Government to treat the matter with the utmost seriousness and urgency and ensure that the reported threat is immediately investigated, its authenticity established, its source identified and those responsible brought to justice. The Conference further demanded that every Kashmiri Pandit employee named or otherwise threatened be provided effective and adequate security, along with necessary protection for their families. It was pointed out that a large number of PM Package employees are presently residing in rented accommodations, which further adds to their sense of insecurity.
ASKPC, therefore, strongly urged the Government to direct the concerned authorities to allot suitable Government accommodation to these employees on priority, particularly those facing security threats. The Conference also called for a thorough inquiry into the reasons and circumstances behind such threats so that appropriate preventive measures can be taken. The meeting recalled that the mass exodus of 1990 uprooted an entire community from its ancestral homeland and forced generations to live in exile. The administration must ensure that such a tragic chapter of history is not allowed to repeat itself in any form.

The safety, dignity and security of Kashmiri Pandit employees and their families must remain a priority.
All members present expressed grave concern over the reported threatening letter and urged the authorities to address the issue forthwith and take all necessary measures to instil confidence among the affected employees and the community at large.
Besides the security issue, various day-to-day matters concerning the management of the Conference and issues affecting the community were also discussed. Several decisions were taken in this regard.
The following members attended the meeting:
Sh. M. L. Malla, Sh. M. K. Kaul, Sh. S. K. Bhan, Sh. Nanaji Sathu, Sh. C. L. Bhat, Sh. Navin Bhushan, Sh. Ram Krishan Bhat, Sh. Surinder Kumar Bhat, Sh. Sundari Lal Koul, Sh. Rohit Bhat, Sh. Bharat Bhushan Raina, Sh. Opinder Lidoo, Sh. Raj Nath Raina and Sh. Virander Koul.
The meeting concluded with the recitation of the Gayatri Mantra, followed by a vote of thanks proposed by Adv. C. L. Bhat.
