District Rajouri Cricket Tourney gets underway
6-wkt win for Nowshera-A in opening tie

RAJOURI, June 14: Beating Peerpanchal XI by six wickets, Nowshera-A won the inaugural tie in the Rajouri District Cricket Tournament organised under the banner of Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association at Sports Stadium, here today.
Earlier, batting first after winning the toss, Peerpanchal XI set a target of 145 runs in the allotted 30 overs, which, in reply, Nowshera-A chased in 27.3 overs for the loss of four wickets.
Yasar was top scorer from Peerpanchal with 32 runs in his account while Sonu Qazi contributed 33-ball 29 runs to the total. Gulbash and Sarfraz added valuable 16 runs each to the score. From Nowshera XI, Rakesh and Amit Dutta were most successful bowlers with three wickets each while Mouzam Khan took one.
Later, Nowshera XI overhauled the required total making 146 runs for the loss of four wickets sparing 2.3 overs of the innings. Amit Dutta, who earlier bowled well, remained the top scorer with 46-ball 53 runs studded with three fours and an equal number of sixes. Vishal Sharma also made fifty with the help of six hits to the fence. Baljeet Singh contributed 31 runs including four boundaries.
From Peerpanchal XI, Nazir claimed two wickets, followed by Asif Malik and Rahil, who shared apiece each.
For his all-round performance, Amit Dutta was adjudged man of the match. Today’s match was officiated by Mohinder Singh and Zulfikar Dar as umpires while Mukhtar Ahmed was scorer. NEXT MATCH: Kalakote-A to meet MCC Badhoon.
Meanwhile, earlier the tournament was declared open by District Development Commissioner Rajouri, J P Singh, who was chief guest on the occasion. Prominent among others present were Abdul Qayoom Dar (chairman) and Ravi Singh (convenor) as also other members of Rajouri District Tournament Committee.
Member working committee of JKCA, Ravinder Singh and Rakesh Kumar were also present in the opening function.
