JAMMU, Aug 12: Jammu and Kashmir National Conference Additional General Secretary Jammu and former minister Ajay Kumar Sadhotra said that the Omar Abdullah-led Government is committed to equitable development of all regions and sections of Jammu and Kashmir and will continue to raise the voice of the people.
He appealed to the newly joined members and party workers to strengthen the organisational base of the National Conference at the grassroots level and work unitedly for the welfare, peace, prosperity and restoration of the democratic rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
Addressing a colourful function organised at Sher-i-Kashmir Bhawan, Jammu, to welcome Diljeet Singh of Atli More, Kathua alongwith Ajay Sharma and Darshan Sharma who joined the National Conference, Rattan Lal Gupta Provincial President Jammu JKNC said that the growing participation of people in the party reflects their increasing faith in the policies and programmes of the NC and the BJP is steadily losing ground in the Jammu region due to its anti-people policies, failure to address the genuine concerns of the people and its continued delay in restoring the Statehood of Jammu and Kashmir.
Gupta welcomed Diljeet Singh into the National Conference fold and said that his joining, along with the support of people from different sections of society, is a clear indication of the changing political scenario in Jammu region.
He said that the people of Jammu and Kashmir have lost faith in the BJP-led Central Government because it has failed to fulfil its repeated commitment regarding the restoration of Statehood to Jammu and Kashmir. "The people have waited long enough. Statehood is a democratic and constitutional aspiration of the people of J&K, and there can be no further justification for delaying it," Gupta said.
The Provincial President said that the Centre should immediately take concrete steps to restore Statehood and strengthen the democratic and federal structure of the country. He also criticised the BJP for diverting public attention from core issues such as unemployment, rising prices, development, infrastructure and the economic difficulties being faced by ordinary people. |
