8/12/2026 10:12:56 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Aug 12: A comprehensive Mental Health Awareness and Wellness Programme was organized at NITS Polytechnic, Indira Nagar, Miran Sahib, Jammu, under the community outreach initiatives of NHPC and Sri Sri Rural Development Programme (SSRDP). The programme focused on the importance of meditation, yoga and mindfulness practices as tools for promoting overall well-being and maintaining a balanced approach to life.
The programme highlighted the growing importance of mental health in today's rapidly changing environment, particularly among the younger generation. Participants were sensitized about various mental health challenges, the causes and effects of stress, anxiety and emotional pressure, and the importance of seeking appropriate support rather than ignoring such concerns.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. S.S. Wazir, HOD Electrical, NITS Polytechnic, elaborated on various aspects of mental health and the challenges being faced by society. He emphasized that mental health deserves the same attention as physical health and discussed how timely awareness, proper guidance, healthy habits and appropriate interventions can help individuals deal with mental and emotional challenges.
Tejasvi, an experienced IT Engineer and HR professional presently based in Sweden, conducted a detailed and highly interactive session on mental well-being. With her association with Art of Living as a Happiness and Yoga Teacher, she brought together her professional experience and knowledge of wellness practices to provide practical guidance to the participants. Tejasvi explained the relationship between stress, thoughts, emotions and physical well-being and introduced participants to simple techniques that can be incorporated into daily life. She conducted live breathing exercises, meditation and mindfulness practices, demonstrating practical ways of calming the mind, reducing stress and improving concentration and emotional balance. The participants actively participated in the exercises and experienced the techniques during the session.
Savinder Gupta, Chairman, NITS Polytechnic, also addressed the participants and spoke about the seriousness of mental health challenges being faced not only in India but across the world. He emphasized that mental health is an important social issue and requires collective efforts from educational institutions, families, communities and individuals. He encouraged the participants to develop healthy lifestyles, maintain positive relationships and seek help whenever required instead of suffering silently.
Gurdev Singh, former Sarpanch of the area, attended the programme and appreciated the initiative taken for the benefit of residents and the local community. He expressed his appreciation to NHPC, SSRDP and NITS Polytechnic for organizing programmes that address important social and community.
