Police attaches moveable property worth lakhs of notorious drug smuggler

KATHUA, Aug 21: In a first of its kind action in the entire J&K Union Territory under the provisions of the newly enacted criminal laws, J&K Police Kathua has attached a vehicle identified as proceeds of crime in connection with a narcotics case.
The action was led by SHO PS Billawar under the guidance of SP Ops Upper Kathua & SDPO Billawar and under the overall supervision of SSP Kathua Ms. Mohita Sharma, IPS.
The attached vehicle is a Car bearing Registration No. JK08Q-4484, registered in the name of Shabir Shah S/O Yousaf Shah R/O Karandi Kalan, Tehsil Marheen, Distt. Kathua. At the time of the incident, it was being driven by his brother namely Bagh Shah S/O Yousaf Shah R/O Karandi Kalan, Tehsil Marheen, Distt. Kathua (Drug Peddler), who is booked under PIT-NDPS and presently lodged in District Jail Kishtwar.
The case is registered under FIR No. 56/2026 U/S 8/21/22/29 NDPS Act at Police Station Billawar. During the course of investigation, it was found that the vehicle was often used in the commission of drug smuggling offences.
Following due legal procedure and after obtaining necessary orders from the Hon'ble Court JMIC Billawar, the vehicle was attached under _Section 107 read with Section 6 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).
J&K Police Kathua reiterates its firm commitment to cracking down on drug smuggling and other criminal activities, utilizing the strengthened legal provisions under the new criminal codes to ensure swift and effective justice.
