| Kashmir court convicts UP youth for rape of minor | | | Early Times Report Srinagar , June 15: A local court today convicted a youth from Uttar Pradesh for abduction and rape of a minor girl eight years. It fixed June 18 to announce quantum of sentence against the convict. "It has been established and proved that Abid Ahmad Khan alias Akash had kidnaped a 12 year old girl from Qamarwari area of the city on October 31, 2001 and taken her to his house in Paranpur ( Uttar Pradesh) and raped her for ten days", Additional district and sessions Judge Srinagar M S khan said in the judgement. He directed that the accused be taken into custody and kept in judicial lock up till June 18 and cancelled bail bonds of the accused. The judge said"the workforce from outside the state includes the people with criminal background who remain unchecked and unnoticed, resulting in their penetrating very deep in the day-to-day affairs of our society, at least in this part of the country, and the fate of our fragile kids is left unprotected". He said the directorate of school education must make it obligatory upon the school management private and government not to allow minor students upto 8th class to leave school premises without their parents/guardians coming to drop and collect them if not using the school bus and make them liable to penal action for non-compliance. He asked the state police strictly verify the antecedents of migrant labourers to weed out criminal elements among them, Khan said.
