JAMMU, Aug 25: The School of Education, MIER College of Education (Autonomous), Jammu, organised a guest lecture on "Awareness Regarding ALIMCO Scheme to Observe Spinal Muscular Atrophy & Episodic Disabilities Awareness Month" on August 25, 2026. The programme aimed to sensitise students and faculty members about government schemes, rehabilitation services, assistive devices and welfare benefits available for persons with disabilities. The resource person was Mr. Rahul Singh, Rehabilitation Officer, CRC Jammu.
The welcome address was delivered by Prof. Nishta Rana, Head, School of Education. Dr. C. R. Jangra Assistant Professor served as the Programme In-charge. Faculty members of Special Education and students also attended the programme. During the lecture, Mr. Rahul Singh provided detailed information about the Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALIMCO), ADIP Scheme, Unique Disability ID (UDID) Card, disability certification, CRC services and various government welfare benefits. He explained the importance of UDID registration and highlighted the documents required for registration, including an Aadhaar Card and mobile number. He further apprised the participants about the availability of assistive devices and various concessions and support provisions, including benefits related to railway and bus travel, as well as assistance available through the Department of Social Welfare. He also explained the eligibility criteria and procedures for accessing different schemes and rehabilitation services.
The session was highly interactive, with students actively participating and seeking clarification on eligibility, registration procedures, disability certification and benefits available under various government initiatives. The interaction enhanced the participants' understanding of the institutional mechanisms and welfare provisions designed to support persons with disabilities.
The programme was organised under the able leadership and guidance of Prof. Adit Gupta, Principal and Director, MIER College of Education (Autonomous), Jammu, who has consistently encouraged initiatives that promote inclusive education, social responsibility and the holistic development of future educators. The initiative also aligns with the College's commitment to strengthening awareness of disability rights, accessibility, rehabilitation and government support mechanisms.
