MUMBAI, Aug 26: The Maharashtra Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has sought sanction to prosecute a suspended additional sessions judge of the Mumbai City Civil and Sessions Court who was named as an accused in a corruption case last year.
The ACB sent the request for sanction to the Law and Judiciary Department in July, and the latter forwarded it to the Bombay High Court for a decision, a senior ACB official said.
A charge sheet will be filed in the case only after the sanction is received, he added.
The judge was named in an FIR registered in November 2025 after ACB sleuths arrested court clerk-cum-typist Chandrakant Vasudev for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 15 lakh from a complainant to obtain a favourable order in a civil case. The agency alleged that the clerk had demanded the bribe on behalf of the judge.
The agency gathered concrete evidence before sending the request for sanction, the official said.
The judge has not been arrested in the case. The clerk, Vasudev, was granted bail by a special ACB court in December last year.
