| SHO makes maiden visit to GDC Majalta, delivers lecture | | |  Early Times Report
MAJALTA, Aug 31: Government Degree College (GDC) Majalta organised an awareness lecture on Road Safety and Drug De-addiction in its Lecture Hall-1 during the maiden visit of the Station House Officer (SHO), Police Station Majalta, Sh. Narinder Singh, to the college. The programme was organised under the able guidance and leadership of Dr. Alpana Vohra, Principal, GDC Majalta, with the objective of sensitising students about responsible citizenship, road safety, and the growing menace of drug abuse.
The programme was organised by the Road Safety Club of GDC Majalta under the convenorship of Dr. Chander Mohan, Associate Professor of English and Convenor, Road Safety Club.
Addressing the students, Sh. Narinder singh highlighted the importance of observing traffic rules and regulations and adopting safe practices while travelling on roads. He stressed that road safety is not merely a legal obligation but a collective social responsibility. The students were advised to follow traffic rules, wear helmets and seat belts, avoid rash and negligent driving, refrain from using mobile phones while driving, and remain particularly cautious while riding two-wheelers.
A substantial part of the interaction was devoted to the issue of drug abuse and de-addiction. The SHO sensitised the students about the serious physical, psychological, social and academic consequences of substance abuse. He urged the students to stay away from drugs and other intoxicating substances and encouraged them to become ambassadors of the Drug-Free India campaign. He also emphasised the important role that young people can play in creating awareness among their peers, families and communities.
During the interaction, the students were also advised to remain vigilant and alert regarding anti-social elements or suspicious activities in and around the college premises. The SHO encouraged the students to immediately bring any suspicious movement, activity or attempt to lure young people towards drugs or other undesirable activities to the notice of the college authorities or the police.
Dr. Chander Mohan, Associate Professor of English and Convenor, Road Safety Club, expressed gratitude to the SHO Majalta for sparing his valuable time to interact with the students. He stated that the Road Safety Club would continue to organise awareness programmes and activities aimed at promoting responsible road behaviour and sensitising students about the dangers of substance abuse. |
