JAMMU, Aug 31: As part of its ongoing Operation Kamdhenu against illegal bovine smuggling, Jammu Police foiled two attempts to illegally transport bovines, rescuing 29 bovine animals and seizing two vehicles.
In the first incident, Police Station Nagrota intercepted truck bearing registration No. JK18A-6500 at Rajan Bar, which was found carrying 20 bovines. The driver, however, fled from the spot.
In the second incident, a dumper bearing registration No. JK19A-2576 was intercepted at Khanpur near Gref Company on NH-44.
On checking, 09 bovines were found loaded in the vehicle, and the driver, Habib S/o Mohd Ali R/o Najot, Tehsil Billawar, District Kathua, A/P Ghati, Tehsil Budhi, District Kathua, was apprehended.
In both cases, the bovines were found loaded in a harsh and cruel manner without requisite DM permission. All 29 bovines were rescued and both vehicles seized as per law.
In this connection, FIR Nos. 217/2026 and 218/2026 under Section 223 BNS and Section 11 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act have been registered at Police Station Nagrota. Further investigation is underway.
Jammu Police remains committed to Operation Kamdhenu and will continue to take strict action against bovine smuggling and cruelty to animals. |
