| Army honours brave women | | | Early Times Report Sringar, June 16: Veer Naris of the Kashmir Valley were honoured at a Veer Nari Sammelan held from 14 Jun to 16 June 2009 at Srinagar under aegis of AWWA, Chinar Corps. Approximately 100 ladies from remote corners of the Valley came to Srinagar under arrangements of the Army. Over a period of two days the Veer Naris were educated on pensionary benefits post the Sixth Pay Commission and the Ex- Servicemen Contribution Health Scheme (ECSH). Their pension documents were scrutinised in detail and anomalies, if any, were noted for immediate rectification. The Defence Pension Disbursing Officer (DPDO) was present on the spot to alleviate problems of the ladies. The facilities of a lady gynecologist, medical specialist, dentist and other doctors were availed by the Veer Naris on their arrival. Today in glittering ceremony Mrs Kirti Kapoor, President AWWA accompanied by Mrs Deepa Bhardwaj, President AWWA, Northern Command and Mrs Bubbles Singh, President AWWA, 15 Corps honoured the Veer Naris by presenting gifts to them. Speaking compassionately Mrs Kirti Kapoor conveyed that the Army was proud of the sacrifices made by them and that their welfare and well being was uppermost in her mind. Later over a cup of tea she interacted with all the Veer Naris, who thanked President AWWA for her genuine concern. The maiden Veer Naris Sammelan was a resounding success, as it helped ladies to share their views and suggestions. Most of all, it conveyed to them that the Army Cared.
