| Dhruv, Abid back to BCCI fold, set to play for J&K | | | SANJEEV SHARMA JAMMU, June 16: Former J&K captain and all rounder, Dhruv Mahajan and pacer, Abid Nabi, after severing ties with the Indian Cricket League (ICL), have returned to the fold of Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Since both these top cricketers of the state have got the NOC from ICL and subsequently availed the amnesty granted by the BCCI, they may play for J&K in Ranji Trophy this season. Dhruv and Abid are among 79 players of the country, who have returned to the BCCI fold and have become eligible to play for their respective states from June Ist. “Yes, we have been informed by the Board that 79 first class cricketers, including Dhruv Mahajan and Abid Nabi, have been granted amnesty. But, we have yet to seek confirmation from BCCI whether these two cricketers are eligible for the domestic cricket or not,” general secretary of the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA), Salim Khan told SAN. However, it has been reliably learnt that the Board has decided to serve one-year cooling off period to these cricketers before becoming eligible to play international cricket. Earlier, the Board, after scrutinizing the requests, has written to the concerned state associations that these players are eligible to play in the domestic tournaments from this year. “We are on the job to clarify things with BCCI. Hopefully, in a couple of days, the JKCA will be able to make clear its stand on both Dhruv and Abid,” added Salim Khan. On the other hand, the general secretary has made it clear that the players will have to go through laid down selection procedure in order to pave their way back into state team. “It is not as such that they will get automatic place in the Ranji team but they will have to follow the selection process like any other cricketer,” asserted Khan. Dhruv has confirmed that he has got the NOC from ICL and has also been granted amnesty by the BCCI. “After getting NOC from ICL and amnesty from BCCI, I’m eligible to play domestic cricket from June Ist,” Dhruv told SAN. Aware of the development, the JKCA Jammu wing joint secretary, Sudershan Mehta had no objection in Dhruv joining the ongoing preparation camps for the Ranji season ahead. “We have nothing personal against Dhruv, so he can join the ongoing coaching camps at GGM Science College hostel ground any time,” said Mehta.
