House panel recommends college of Rangers in J&K

Srinagar, Jun 16: Chairman, Public Sector Committee (PSC), Choudhary Mohammad Ramzan has underscored the need for establishing Rangers College in the state on the pattern of Dehradoon Forest College, vital for promotion and protection of green gold. In this pursuit, he asked the forest authorities to submit a proposal to the government for necessary approval.
Choudhary said this while chairing a PSC meeting convened to discuss the CAG’s audit report of 2006-07 pertaining to Forest and its allied departments and wings.
Threadbare discussions were held over financial management, outstanding forest advances and program implementation, recruitment rules and filling up of vacant posts. The members of the Committee raised various points, views and suggestions on these paras.
The committee stressed upon the forest authorities to come up with the detailed report with regard to framing of rules pertaining to Forest Protection Force, action taken report about enquiries conducted into fire incidents and against fire smugglers.
The committee was informed that the rules have been framed and cleared by Law and Administrative Reforms and Inspection departments and are presently under process in the Finance department.
The Chairman directed the concerned to maintain close coordination and strengthen the Forest Village Committees, so that the smuggling of forests wealth can be stopped. Ramzan directed the concerned to pursue the rules in Finance department and issue notification within two months. He called for making every task pertaining to forests including completion of afforestation projects, time bound.
