| Academy Announces State Photography Awards 2009 | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Jun 17-The prestigious “State Photography Awards -2009 ” were announced by Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages here today. The Awards were declared in favour eight prominent photographers belonging to all the three regions of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh after approval of President of State Academy and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. Giving details Zaffar Iqbal Manhas, Secretary Academy stated that the first Award was bagged by Mir Majeed Mumtaz for his photograph entitled “Substance of Life” while Naushad Gayoor bagged the second State award in the state level competition for his photo entitled “Tranquil Land”. Mohammad Safeen’s “untitled” photograph was adjudged the best third. The Chief Minister also approved five Special State Consolation Awards in favour of Dr. N S Jamwal, Sanjay Gupta, Sonam Spalizin, Azam Hussan and Shiekh Yaseer Arfat. Zaffar further said that Academy had received 72 entries at various offices of Academy and after initial scrutiny 40 works were chosen for further judgment by a high level jury approved by the Chief Minister. The jury unanimously selected eight photographs for Awards under different categories, he added. Zaffar on behalf of Chief Minister extended warmth gratitude to the Award winning photographers and hoped that they will also highlight the beauty of Jammu and Kashmir in their further works to popularize the state as a seat of artistic excellence besides promoting tourism through this medium. The Award ceremony will be held shortly in Srinagar, Zaffar said.
