JAMMU, Sept 17: Acharya Shri Chander College of Medical Sciences & Hospital (ASCOMS), under the aegis of the Shri Chander Chinar Bada Akhara Udasin Society, organized a grand Car and Bike Rally in firm support of the Prime Minister's flagship campaign, Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan (Drug-Free India Campaign), on the auspicious occasion of the 76th birthday of the Prime Minister nearly 200 vehicles participated in the event.
The rally witnessed energetic and active participation from the youth of the college, including medical students, junior residents, faculty members, and hospital staff, all driving together to raise public awareness against the growing menace of substance abuse.
Dr. Devansh Yadav (IAS), Municipal Commissioner, Jammu, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. The event was further distinguished by the presence of key management dignitaries: Dr. Gautam Mengi, Joint Secretary, ASCOMS, 0Shri Vrinder Saigal, Member, Governing Body, Shri Rakesh Raman, Treasurer Trustee, Heads of Departments (HODs) from various medical specialties, senior faculty, residents, and healthcare personnel were also present in large numbers to lend their support.
Welcoming the gathering, the Director Principal of ASCOMS highlighted the founding values of the Shri Chander Chinar Bada Akhara Udasin Society, emphasizing that ASCOMS actively participates in all major social and public welfare initiatives that serve the broader community. Speaking on the institutional commitment to combating drug addiction, he stated:
"Substance abuse poses a severe threat to the vitality of our youth and our nation. While awareness drives like today's rally are vital to shattering social stigma, healthcare institutions must also provide concrete clinical support. In line with this vision, a formal proposal to establish a dedicated De-Addiction Centre at ASCOMS is being submitted to the management to offer comprehensive treatment, psychological counseling, and long-term rehabilitation for affected individuals."
Chief Guest Dr. Devansh Yadav (IAS), Municipal Commissioner, Jammu, praised ASCOMS and its vibrant students for participating in the event. He emphasized that youth-led initiatives play a pivotal role in driving social transformation and building a drug-free society.
Management leaders Dr. Gautam Mengi, Vrinder Saigal, and Rakesh Raman expressed their full endorsement of the initiative and commended the faculty, and student organizers for aligning institutional efforts with national health priorities.
The rally was flagged off from the ASCOMS campus, with participants driving through key routes in Jammu while displaying safety banners, wearing protective gear, and spreading messages advocating a healthy, drug-free lifestyle. |
