| Ritika Trehan celebrates PM Modi's birthday with women, children at Channi Himmat | | |  Early Times Report
JAMMU, Sept 17: Jammu and Kashmir UT Convenor of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, Ritika Trehan, marked Prime Minister Narendra Modi's birthday through a community outreach programme at Channi Himmat, interacting directly with women and young girls belonging to marginalised sections of society and emphasising the importance of service, empowerment and inclusive development. The programme was organised under the 'Seva Sankalp Abhiyan', with Trehan saying that the occasion should be used not merely for celebration but also for undertaking meaningful initiatives for the welfare of those who need support and encouragement.
During the programme, Trehan celebrated the occasion with children and women, cut a cake with the children and lit 100 diyas as a symbolic prayer for the prosperity, peace and progress of the nation. She said that such community-based programmes provide an opportunity to connect with people at the grassroots and understand the aspirations and difficulties of women and children from economically and socially vulnerable sections. She stressed that the empowerment of women and the well-being, education and protection of children must remain integral to the larger vision of a progressive society.
In a significant gesture of service, Trehan adopted two Anganwadi children as part of her Seva Sankalp, describing the initiative as a personal commitment towards extending care and support to children who require greater attention and opportunities. She said that Anganwadi centres play an important role in early childhood care, nutrition and foundational development, and that society as a whole has a responsibility to supplement institutional efforts through community participation. The gesture, she said, was intended to convey that meaningful public service begins with concern for the most vulnerable members of society.
Trehan said the celebration was inspired by the 25 years of Prime Minister Modi's public life, which she described as being associated with an emphasis on nation-building, public welfare and participatory development. She said the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan was an effort to translate the spirit of public participation into grassroots action by reaching out to women and children and undertaking concrete welfare-oriented initiatives. She called upon citizens, particularly women and youth, to contribute to society through acts of service and community participation rather than limiting social responsibility to occasional events.
Interacting with the women and young girls, Trehan also underlined the importance of education, self-confidence, dignity and awareness of opportunities available to them. She said that empowering girls requires sustained support from families, communities and institutions, while children from marginalised backgrounds need an environment in which they can grow, learn and realise their potential. She maintained that initiatives such as Beti Bachao Beti Padhao should continue to work at the grassroots to promote the value of the girl child and strengthen collective efforts for women's empowerment and child welfare. |
