JAMMU, Sept 19: The Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of MIER College of Education, organised two insightful sessions on September 18, 2026, focusing on emerging opportunities in psychology and effective engagement with Generation Z. The sessions were facilitated by Ms. Gagandeep Kaur Sethi, Clinical Psychologist and Director, Unique Psychological Services, New Delhi.
Jasleen Mohial, Coordinator, IQAC, delivered the welcome address, welcoming the resource person, faculty members, and students. She highlighted the importance of organising such programmes as part of IQAC's efforts to sustain and enhance quality, particularly through the professional development of faculty and the enrichment of students' learning experiences.
The first session, "Entrepreneurship in Psychology," was organised for Psychology students of the School of Social Sciences and Humanities (SSSH). The resource person highlighted the expanding scope of psychology across areas such as child psychology, counselling and mental-health services, marriage and family counselling, organisational and workplace psychology, educational psychology, behavioural and consumer research, human resource management, psychometrics, wellness, sports psychology, gaming psychology, and digital and online psychological services. The session encouraged students to look beyond conventional career pathways and consider how psychological knowledge and skills can be applied in innovative, independent, and entrepreneurial contexts.
The session was followed by a workshop titled "Decoding Gen Z: From Understanding to Engagement," organised for the faculty members of the College. The workshop explored who today's learners are and how they learn, with particular attention to the characteristics, perspectives, expectations, communication patterns, and behavioural tendencies of Generation Z. Sethi discussed how contemporary learners engage with information, technology, digital platforms, and learning environments, highlighting the importance of relevance, interactivity, visual and multimedia learning, learner autonomy, timely feedback, and real-world connections in engaging Gen Z learners. The workshop also focused on identifying practical ways for faculty members to strengthen student engagement through innovative and reflective teaching practices, effective communication, and positive teacher-student relationships.
Prof. Adit Gupta, Principal, MIER College of Education, in his message, appreciated the initiative taken by IQAC and emphasised the importance of understanding the changing needs and aspirations of young learners. He highlighted the need for educational institutions to create opportunities that equip students with relevant skills, professional awareness, and an entrepreneurial mindset. He also encouraged faculty members to engage with contemporary issues and emerging trends to further enrich students' learning experiences.
Both sessions saw enthusiastic participation from students and faculty, who actively engaged in discussions and interactions. In her vote of thanks, Ms. Jasleen Mohial expressed gratitude to the Principal for his support and encouragement, the resource person for sharing her expertise and insights, and the faculty members and students for their active participation. |
