SRINAGAR, Sept 19: As part of the BJP's ongoing mass public outreach programme across Jammu and Kashmir, Leader of Opposition in the J&K Legislative Assembly, Sunil Sharma held detailed interactions with several delegations representing trade unions, businesses, traders, transporters, civil society, intellectuals, professionals, medical associations, students and other sections of society in Srinagar.
J&K BJP Secretary Arif Raja, Co-Convenor All Cells Bilal Parray, Senior Leader Dr. Ali Mohd. Mir, District Presidents Adv. Sheikh Salman and Gh. Hasan were also present on the occasion.
During the interactions, the delegations apprised Sunil Sharma of various issues concerning their respective sectors and highlighted their grievances, suggestions and demands. Sharma gave a patient hearing to the representatives and assured them that their concerns would be taken up with the concerned authorities and, wherever required, strongly raised during the upcoming Assembly Session.
Sharma said the BJP would continue to remain a strong voice of the people of Jammu and Kashmir and would hold the government accountable on issues affecting the common citizen.
"People are raising basic and genuine issues-electricity poles, shortage of staff in schools, doctors in hospitals, damaged roads and potholes, employment-related concerns and civic amenities. These are issues that require governance and administrative action," Sharma said.
He alleged that for the past two years, the National Conference-led government has repeatedly cited "lack of powers" in response to several issues confronting the people. According to Sharma, this has created confusion and frustration among the public.
"People want their day-to-day problems to be addressed. Electricity infrastructure, school staff, doctors in hospitals and roads do not wait for political circumstances. If the government believes that every issue requires Statehood, then it must explain what responsibilities it is presently discharging and why," he said.
Sharma also raised concerns regarding employees and workers associated with various government schemes and departments, including Daily Wagers, GRS, Technical Assistants, ASHA workers, Anganwadi workers and NHM employees. He said their concerns regarding job security, remuneration and regularisation require urgent attention.
He further expressed concern over what he described as growing public complaints regarding corruption, delays in Panchayat elections, increased power tariffs and employment-related issues facing the youth.
"Thousands of young people are looking for opportunities and a secure future. The government must address their concerns instead of allowing frustration to grow," Sharma said.
The Leader of Opposition assured the delegations that the issues placed before him would be taken up at the appropriate forums, including the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, and, wherever necessary, with the Central Government.
Sharma said the BJP would continue its public outreach programme across Jammu and Kashmir, listen directly to the people and raise their concerns through constitutional and democratic forums.
"The BJP will continue to stand with the people of Jammu and Kashmir. Our responsibility as the Opposition is to listen to the people, raise their issues in the Assembly and ensure that the government is held accountable," Sharma said. |
