New Delhi, Sept 20: The inaugural match of the PDD Premier League was played today with great enthusiasm, marking the beginning of an exciting cricketing tournament for the employees and engineers of the Power Development Department. The opening ceremony was conducted in the presence of Er. Arshad Hussain Reshi, Chief Engineer, JPDCL, along with the captains and players of the participating teams. The opening encounter featured Voltage Storms XI, led by Er. Sachin Tickoo, and Thunder Strikers XI, led by Ashok Dubey. After winning the toss, Thunder Strikers XI elected to bat first and scored 88 runs for the loss of six wickets in their allotted 20 overs. Voltage Storms’ bowlers maintained a disciplined, wicket-to-wicket attack. Rohit Gupta and Ankush Sharma were the standout performers with the ball, taking two wickets each and conceding just 33 runs in their combined eight overs. The fielders further strengthened the bowling effort with two run-outs. In reply, Voltage Storms XI chased down the target in just 10.1 overs, scoring 89/1 and securing a comprehensive nine-wicket victory. Sandeep Sharma led the chase with an unbeaten 37 off 28 balls, including seven boundaries. Sunil Bhardwaj contributed an aggressive 26 off 16 balls, while Raies Hussain remained unbeaten on 15 off 18 deliveries. For his excellent bowling performance and crucial contribution to the team’s victory, Rohit Gupta was declared Man of the Match. The opening fixture provided an enthusiastic start to the PDD Premier League, bringing together officers, engineers and employees in a spirit of teamwork, sportsmanship and healthy competition. |
