| Government responsible for Shopian incident: MLA Shopian | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, June 18: The Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) Shopian and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader Abdul Razzak Waghay today accused the government of inaction in the Shopian rape and murder case. While interacting with the media persons, he said the government was encouraging human rights violation in the state and was misleading the innocent people. “How can the people trust the government who termed earlier negated the people’s accusations that the 17-year-old Asiya and her sister-in-law were raped and later murdered,” Razzak said. He said the PDP was the only party working for the betterment of the people. “What would have chief minister, Omar Abdullah done if it would have happened to his sister,” he questioned adding the people couldn’t be now fooled with false promises. Later the members of PDP staged a protest rally against the incident by the MLA Shopian. The protestors marched towards the civil secretariat and raised anti-government slogans. They were demanding severe punishment for the accused and asked the government to present the commission report immediately. They also demanded repealing of armed forces special powers act.
