| SKUAST-Jammu celebrates 28th Foundation Day | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Sept 22: Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu observed its 28th Foundation Day today with a grand celebration. Dr. Mangala Rai, Former Secretary (DARE) & Director General ICAR, New Delhi was chief guest on the occasion. Addressing the gathering, he called upon university fraternity to build an academic ecosystem centered on creativity, curiosity and empathy that serve as a precursor for research, innovation, entrepreneurship development and societal relevance. He said that the changing world requires universities to rethink the way students are being taught, assessed and prepared for future life. He said that educational institutions should not only impart formal education to the students, but also develop better understanding of the concepts and quality learning. While congratulating university for the rapid strides that it has made in the last 28 years since its inception in 1999, he advised the students to set their measurable goals and work hard with honesty and utmost dedication for their achievements. He also urged them to follow the teachings of Lord Buddha and Swami Vivekananda and respect teachers and nature.
Prof. B.N. Tripathi, Vice Chancellor of SKUAST-Jammu, in his presidential address, appreciated all the employees and students for their contribution to the university's success. He reflected on SKUAST-Jammu's impressive journey which began with just two faculties and has now expanded to six faculties, Institute of Biotechnology, research stations and KVKs. He emphasized the university's commitment to research with over 50 crop varieties released and more than 70 percent of research papers published in journals with NAAS ratings above six.
The University's admission has also increased and around 2400 students are studying in the institution that reflects the growing confidence of the aspirants in the institution. Collaborations with other universities have increased the global visibility of SKUAST-Jammu and as a result of this about 15 students from 12 countries are pursuing their studies in the agrivarsity. Highlighting the importance of developing an ecosystem of Start-Ups and FPOs in the country in general and Jammu region in particular, Prof. Tripathi said that SKUAST-Jammu is running projects like RKVY-RAFTAAR, HADP and JKCIP that are proving instrumental in developing and promoting entrepreneurship development among youth, farm women and farmers. Emphasizing the relevance and importance of academia-industry collaborations in the present era, Prof. Tripathi said that university has inked eight MoUs and appointed six Professors of Practice from renowned industries to promote project based learning among the students as well as to encourage them to work together on real-life problems.
Dr. Anil Kumar, Registrar, SKUAST-Jammu and Dean Faculty of Agriculture congratulated fresher students in the university. He said that universities are not merely places of teaching and learning but institutions that shape and transform individuals, society and the nation. |
