Jammu, Sept 25: With a view to create awareness about consumer protection and grievance redressal mechanism available under Reserve Bank - Integrated Ombudsman Scheme, 2026, a Town Hall Meeting was organized by the Office of the Banking Ombudsman, RBI, Jammu at Vijaypur, Samba on September 25, 2026. The programme was chaired by Shri Neeraj Kumar, RBI Ombudsman (RBIO). The programme was attended by Senior officials from various banks, branch heads of the branches operating in Samba, customers, senior citizens and students. Shri Neeraj Kumar, RBI Ombudsman in his key note address highlighted the scheme’s customer-centric features, explaining mechanisms for resolving complaints against entities Regulated by RBI. The participants were informed regarding various modus operandi used by fraudsters to lure and defraud the customers by taking advantage of their ignorance. The need of adopting safety measures while using digital channels of banking was highlighted and various precautions that need to be taken while performing digital transactions were shared. Timely reporting of instances of unauthorized transactions to the regulated entities in view of RBI guidelines on limiting the liability of the customers was also emphasised. Around 200 participants, including bank officials, self-help group members, and customers, engaged in an interactive session. Detailed information regarding Internal Grievance Redress mechanism was shared by J & K Bank. The meeting concluded with an open house session, wherein the RBI Ombudsman and bankers addressed the customer’s concerns/ queries, emphasizing RBI’s commitment to consumer education and protection. |
