Rajouri, Sept 25: The Centre for Hospitality and Tourism, in collaboration with the Department of Environmental Sciences, Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University, Rajouri celebrated World Tourism Day 2026 with enthusiasm and academic fervor.
The programme featured an invited lecture by Dr. Bilal Rashid, Deputy Director, Tourism, Government of Jammu and Kashmir, who delivered an insightful talk on “Career Prospects in Tourism Sector in J&K.” He interacted with the students and highlighted the diverse career opportunities emerging in tourism and allied sectors. The invited lecture was followed by a poster display event on the theme “Digital Agenda and Artificial Intelligence to Redesign Tourism” in which students from the Centre for Hospitality and Tourism and the Department of Environmental Sciences showcased their creative and academic perspectives. The activity provided students with an opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge, creativity and understanding of contemporary tourism issues.
Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, BGSBU, Professor Jawaid Iqbal, also visited the programme and interacted with the faculty and students. In his message, he appreciated the initiative undertaken by the Centre for Hospitality and Tourism and the Department of Environmental Sciences and emphasized the importance of tourism in the socio-economic development of Jammu and Kashmir. He encouraged students to develop professional skills, entrepreneurial capabilities and innovative ideas so that they can contribute meaningfully to the tourism sector and the development of the region.
Registrar, BGSBU, Shri Ravi Kumar Sihag (IAS) in his message, appreciated the collaborative efforts of the departments in organizing the programme and emphasized the importance of providing students with opportunities beyond the conventional classroom environment.
Dean, Academic Affairs, BGSBU, Prof. Titi Xavier, appreciated the participation of students and faculty members and highlighted the academic significance of such programmes in promoting experiential learning, creativity and interdisciplinary engagement..
The programme was coordinated and managed by faculty and staff of Centre for Hospitality and Tourism and Department of Environmental Sciences, BGSBU. The event reflected the spirit of interdisciplinary collaboration and provided a meaningful platform for students to engage with an important sector of the regional economy.
