JAMMU, Sept 25: The Department of Lifelong Learning (DLL), University of Jammu, in collaboration with Government Degree College (GDC) Bishnah, organised a career awareness programme on “Careers in Sports and Artificial Intelligence” for the students of the college.
The programme was conducted under the supervision of Prof. Priyanka Sharma, Director, Department of Lifelong Learning, University of Jammu.
The programme was inaugurated by Dr. Shallu Samyal, Principal, GDC Bishnah. In her welcome address, Dr. Shallu Samyal said that the college has always been keen to organise programmes aimed at enhancing the knowledge, skills and career awareness of its students. She appreciated the collaboration with the Department of Lifelong Learning and expressed the hope that such initiatives would provide students with meaningful guidance at a crucial stage of their academic and career journey.
Dr. Rewa Khajuria, Counsellor, highlighted the various programmes being organised by the Department of Lifelong Learning. She said that the rapidly changing employment landscape has created diverse opportunities beyond conventional career paths. She encouraged the students to explore emerging fields, identify their interests and strengths, and continuously develop relevant skills to remain prepared for future opportunities.
The first technical session was conducted by Dr. Inderjeet Singh, Assistant Professor, Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu, who sensitised the students about the growing scope of careers in sports and physical education. He discussed various career avenues in the sports sector and highlighted the importance of professional training, fitness, discipline and specialised skills for building a successful career in the field.
The second session was delivered by Dr. Abhigya Mahajan, Assistant Professor, School of Computer Science and Engineering, Mata Vaishno Devi University, Katra, who provided an insightful overview of Artificial Intelligence and its applications. He introduced the students to various AI tools and explained how these technologies can simplify everyday tasks, improve productivity and support learning, research and professional activities. He also encouraged the students to develop familiarity with emerging digital technologies and use AI tools responsibly and effectively.
Around 55 students from different semesters of the college attended the programme. The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from the students, who actively interacted with the resource persons and sought clarification on various career- and technology-related queries.
The programme concluded with a formal vote of thanks proposed by Dr. Shrotika Rajput, who expressed gratitude to the Director, DLL; Principal and faculty members of GDC Bishnah; resource persons; and students for their valuable contribution and active participation in making the programme a meaningful learning experience. |
