| Life affected due to spontaneous strike, restrictions in Valley | | | Agencies Srinagar, Jun 19 Life was affected in the summer capital, Srinagar and some other major towns yet again due to spontaneous strike and restrictions imposed by the authorities this morning. Activities in major business hubs in the civil lines, uptown and other city areas remained paralysed with majority of shops remaining closed though there was no strike call from any organisation. Security forces and police personnel were directing people travelling in vehicles to go back. However, only tourist vehicles and those going to Shankeracharya temple were being allowed. However, pedestrians were allowed to move. ''We have strict instructions not to allow any vehicle from this point towards the city,'' a security force jawan said at Nishat. Similar restrictions were also being imposed at Nehru park on the bank of Dal Lake, Dalgate and Tourist Reception Centre (TRC) crossing. Transport was also off the roads in the morning. However, as the day progressed, restrictions imposed by the authorities were also lifted. Later, a number of passenger vehicles were seen plying on some uptown and civil line routes. Work in the government offices, banks and other commercial establishments was affected as employees could not attend to their duties. All educational institutions wore a deserted look as management of most schools and colleges had declared two-day holiday because of 'Baramulla challo' call today and general strike call tomorrow given by the breakaway Hurriyat Conference (HC). A report from Anantang said life in this and other major towns in south Kashmir was affected due to spontaneous strike with shops and business establishments remaining closed and work in government offices was affected. The HC had appealed to students, employees, women, transporters and traders to protest against the killing and rape of two women on May 30 in Shopian. It had also urged people to join 'Baramulla Challo' call today and observe general strike tomorrow.
