| Couple injured in a bear attack at Poonch | | | Early Times Report Jammu, June 19- An elderly couple was injured on Friday after a black bear attacked the duo at Sangla village in Surankote Poonch. The couple has been referred to hospital where they are being treated. Police sources said that 70 year old Badrudin son of Mohammad Din and his wife Parveena Akther were coming out of their house at Sangla village in the wee hours on Friday when a black bear who had ventured into the village attacked them. Sources said that as the bear attacked the aged couple, they raised an alarm forcing many neighbours to come out and help rescue them from the attack of the wild beast. “This is not the first attack that has been carried out by a black bear in the area,” Abdul Rashid Zargar, a local resident said. He said that dozens of such attacks have been witnessed during the past few months but the wild life authorities have not bothered to take any action. Meanwhile, police sources said that the couple was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital; however, Parveena was later shifted to Government Medical College, Jammu for specialized treatment. In the meantime the Wildlife officials on Friday caught a leopard at Thanamandi in Rajouri district after the wild cat had entered into a village. Sources said that a leopard had ventured into village Gurdun Bala in Thanamandi and had sought refuge in a cowshed belonging to Jurmat Din son of Lal Din. Sources said that as the villagers came to know about the leopard that had hid itself in a cowshed, hundreds of villagers assembled near the cowshed. Soon wild life officials were summoned who tranquilized the beast before capturing it.
