| Cakes cut across city as Rahul turns 39 | | | AD Singh Jammu, June 19: Rahul Gandhi, the new face of the Nehru-Gandhi legacy, has turned 39 today and Congress men around the country celebrated Rahul Gandhi’s birthday nationally as ‘Samrasta Diwas' the celebrations where planned with a prospective to win back the dalit constituencies in UP by organizing `Sahbhoj'- the community lunch with Scheduled Castes. But the quick metamorphosis of the idea from UP to the national stage was significant. Even the City of temple witnessed the celebration of the occasion at four different places by the District Youth Congress and National Students Union of India. The move no doubt is politically loaded and the congress is utilizing Rahul’s birthday to woo vote-banks, some of the State Congress Committees have even included his birthday in the official list of functions to be celebrated by the party units. The celebrations on the occasion was such a serious issue for the Congress that Sanjay Lal Paswan, Secretary Indian Youth Congress, Incharge J&K especially traveled down to J&K for the purpose and even the senior party leaders like Raman Bhalla remained quite active on the occasion but other senior leaders remained almost absent. Where in UP the focus of the occasion were dalits, in Jammu Rahul’s birthday became much special for the under privileged children at SOS Home, Transport Nagar, Gol Panjpeer Slum area and Balniketan, Amphalla. Chief Guests at the occasion MLA Gandhi Nagar Raman Bhalla has announced a package of Five lakhs for the SOS Home whereas, Vikram Malhotra, All India Gen Secretary, AIYC, the Chief Guest at the Balniketan and the State body of NSUI has adopted one child each from the Balniketan and will bear the future expenditure of the study of the adopted children. Gifts, sweets and notebooks were distributed among the students at all these places. Every one who spoke on the occasion, whether has ever met Rahul Gandhi or not, spoke high of the young Gandhi and depicted him as the future of India, Youth icon of the country, as a secular character, the leader India wants and even Bharat Ka Yuvraj. There is no doubt that Rahul Gandhi is enjoying the legacy of the Nehru-Gandhi family and has been promoted by Congress as the Youth Icon of India, there is even no doubt that nation wide celebrations of his birthday has clearly strengthened his future prospective as the Prime Minister of India, with so much of political mileage the Young Gandhi seems to be the next best choice of the Congress for leading India and the Congress seems to be gearing up for making it a reality.
