| DC Udhampur reviews drug control measures at NCORD meeting | | |  Early Times Report
UDHAMPUR, Sept 28: Deputy Commissioner Udhampur, Minga Sherpa, today chaired a meeting of the District-Level Narco Coordination Centre (NCORD) Committee to review drug control measures and assess the progress of ongoing efforts to combat the drug menace in the district.
The meeting was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner Prem Singh; Additional SP Sandeep Bhat; Assistant Commissioner Revenue Dr. Umesh Shan and senior officers from various line departments.
The DC conducted a detailed review of measures pertaining to the identification and rehabilitation of individuals struggling with drug addiction, installation of CCTV cameras for hotspot surveillance, prevention of illicit cultivation of narcotic crops, inspections of pharmacies and de-addiction centres, destruction of wild cannabis and preventive enforcement, surveillance of educational institutions, implementation of IEC campaigns, mass awareness programmes, computerised billing systems in pharmacies, Nasha Mukti Panchayats and cases registered under the NDPS Act.
The DC directed the concerned agencies to intensify efforts to identify and apprehend individuals involved in drug trafficking, monitor drug abuse-prone areas and promote community-based rehabilitation and awareness initiatives.
He instructed the concerned departments to intensify counselling services and strengthen IEC activities to sensitise the public, particularly the youth, about the harmful effects of drug abuse and encourage timely rehabilitation and support.
The DC called for decisive action against drug trafficking, effective seizure of illicit substances and sustained efforts to protect the youth from the menace of drugs.
SDMs were directed to conduct joint drives in their respective jurisdictions to identify and curb illicit cultivation of narcotic crops and ensure prompt action against those found involved in such activities. |
