JAMMU, Sept 29: All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Jammu, has earned national recognition at the 26th National Conference of the Foundation for Head and Neck Oncology (FHNO 2026) held at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Convention Centre (SKICC), Srinagar, from 10-13 September 2026, with Dr Vishwajeet Singh Jamwal, Research Scientist, securing the Silver Medal in the Best Poster Presentation category for his innovative study on a dental risk score for patients undergoing radiotherapy for head and neck cancer. The study focuses on identifying and managing oral and dental risks among patients receiving radiotherapy treatment, with the potential to support safer and more personalised clinical care.
The official conference programme brought together oncologists, maxillofacial surgeons, ENT, radiation and medical oncology specialists, researchers and allied healthcare professionals from India and abroad. Commenting on the achievement, Dr Amanjot Kaur, Associate Professor, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, who guided Dr Vishwajeet for the work, praised Dr Jamwal's dedication, scientific approach and commitment to improving patient care. "This award reflects the hard work, clinical insight and research commitment shown by Dr Vishwajeet Singh Jamwal. His study addresses an important but often overlooked aspect of radiotherapy the dental and oral health needs of patients. Developing a practical dental risk score can help clinicians identify vulnerable patients early and improve treatment planning and supportive care."
Prof (Dr) Saurabh Kumar Gupta, Head of Conservative Dentistry, congratulated Dr Jamwal on the national honour and highlighted the relevance of the study to multidisciplinary cancer care. He noted that the research reinforces the importance of coordinated dental and oncology care for patients undergoing radiotherapy.
