| Title holder Ritwan among 4 leads with 3 pts | | State Chess Championship | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, June 20: Reigning champion, Ritwan Sauntra, Sumit Grover, Asim Billah and Rajinder Singh are leading with three points each at the end of round three of the two-day State Chess Championship which went underway today at Mahajan Hall, here.
Two other players, Imtiyaz Lone and Khalid Amin are trailing behind with two and half points in their respective accounts after they tied in their third game in the evening session. A number of participants have gained two points out of their three outings.
In all, 43 participants, including girls, have turned up for the two-day state championship.
Earlier, the championship was declared open by president, Atul Gupta and general secretary, Baldev Raj of the Association. Joint secretary of the Association, Parminder Kumar was also present.
Speaking to the participants, Atul Gupta said, “Top four players out of this event will qualify for the forthcoming national chess championship to be held at Kolkata in the month of September.
Secretary of the Association, Baldev Raj said, “J&K has improved its position at the national level, especially during the last three years of its regular participation. We have high expectations from a couple of young boys, who are working hard.”
