| KVK playing dominant role in bringing scientists close to farmers | | | Early Times Report Jammu, June 21- Krishi Vigyan Kendra,(KVK), also known as Farm Service Centre, is playing an important role in bringing the research scientists face to face with farmers. The scientists help transferring the technologies developed by them directly to the farmers’ fields and also obtain necessary feed back for further refinement of the technology which greatly contributes towards an enhancement in the agriculture productivity in the operational areas. The KVK aims to reduce the time lag between generation of technologies at the research institute and its transfer to the farmers for increasing productivity and income from the agriculture and allied sectors on a sustained basis. Krishi Vigyan Kendra Poonch was established in March, 2007 to cater the needs of training and awareness about agricultural development for farmers of the district. It has adopted On-campus as well as Off-campus transfer of technology program through various trainings and awareness camps. In order to achieve the goal, four mandates have been envisaged in the design of the KVKs: On-farm testing, Farmers’ trainings, vocational trainings for rural youths and Front line demonstrations. In the current Kharif season, KVK Poonch till today has laid down 120 Front line demonstrations (90 in maize, 10 in paddy, 5 rajmash, 5 moong, 5 mash and 3 in til) under several schemes. All the front line demonstrations are laid under scientists’ supervision. Four blocks of Poonch district namely Surankote, Mendhar, Haveli and Mandi are covered under these schemes. About 170 farmers from these blocks have been benefited by the Subject Matter Specialists of the K.V.K. after intensive survey. Under Front line demonstrations farmers are provided with seed and fertilizers for demonstration of benefits of technology like hybrid seed, line sowing (proper spacing), and balance dose of fertilizers.
