| Brick Kilns wrecking havoc along NH | | | Arun Trisal Kathua, June 21- Environmental pollution is a serious problem of industrialized societies because people have converted the life supporting system of the entire living world into their own resources and have vastly disturbed the natural ecological balance. The air pollution is one of the most serious environmental pollution. Air pollution may be descried as the imbalance in the quality of air which causes ill effects. Different types of pollutions are continuously emitted into the atmosphere and removed by self purification process of the air. But when the rate of pollution exceeds or when the self purifying capacity decreases accumulation of pollutants causes serious public health problems. Air pollutants are materials that exist in such concentration as to cause unwanted effects. There are number of reasons which can emerge as the sources of the pollution problem. Man made sources of pollutants can be classified into stationery combustion transportation, industrial process and solid waste disposal sources. The brick kilns, on both the sides of J&K, NH-1A, have added to the environmental pollution in a big way. Sensing the gravity of the situation the state Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has constituted a committee over the mushroom growth of brick kilns in the state, which would look after all the aspects related to the brick kilns as for the issuance of license, registration, certificates by pollution control board (PCB) The Chief Minister while has said that the industrial development could not be achieved by disturbing ecological balance of the state and had asked the concerned authorities to strike a balance between industrial development and preservation of environment. The chief minister was speaking at high level meeting held here to discuss, measure and to check haphazard and unauthorized growth of brick kilns.
