Chandigarh, Oct 2: The NSS Units of Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women organised a community outreach programme, “Honouring the Roots That Raised Us”, at the adopted village of Badheri on the occasion of the International Day of Older Persons under Project AASHIRVAAD. The programme sought to foster intergenerational bonds and sensitise students to the invaluable wisdom, experiences and contributions of senior citizens. NSS volunteers spent meaningful time with elderly members of the community, who shared their life experiences, memories and insights with the students, creating a warm and enriching platform for intergenerational interaction. The celebration was enlivened by a musical session, with volunteers and senior citizens coming together to sing old and evergreen songs. A cake-cutting ceremony added to the festive spirit. The volunteers expressed their respect, gratitude and affection for the elderly, making the occasion memorable for all. The programme embodied the spirit of Project AASHIRVAAD- caring for elders not merely through support, but by spending time with them, listening to their stories, learning from their experiences and celebrating their presence. Officiating Principal Ms. Neena Sharma appreciated the initiative and encouraged students to strengthen their bonds with the elderly and cherish their wisdom and life experiences. |
