| Pahalgam route likely to be thrown open by June end | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, June 21- Experts of the Jawahar Institute of Mountaineering (JIM) and engineers attached with the Pahalgam Development Authority were supervising the snow-clearance operations on the Chandanwari-Amarnath cave mountain route. A senior official of the Shrine Board today said that the officials of the Institute and the Pahalgam Development Authority will carry out recce within next two to three days and the route may be thrown open for the pilgrims on the basis of the report of this team .He said there were indications that the route may be thrown open by the end of next week. In reply to a question the Board official said that the Jammu and Kashmir Bank had so far registered over 1.50 lakh pilgrims and if the rush continued "we may have over 2.50 lakh pilgrims visiting the holy cave by the end of the yatra”. He said that between 5,000 and 7,000 pilgrims visit the cave per day. The number of may swell once the Pahalgam route was thrown open. Asked why the number of langars has gone down from 137 last year to 108 this season the official said that it had been realized that there was no need for having more than 110 langars. And out of this the langars are yet to be set up on the Pahalagm,-cave route. He said that measures have been taken to prevent unregistered pilgrims from moving towards the holy cave. He said it had become necessary for checking unregistered pilgrims from moving towards the cave as it had the danger of creating a stampede around the cave. Once only registered pilgrims were allowed to proceed towards the cave area the security agencies could easily place restrictions on the movement once the pilgrim figure, moving towards the cave, crossed 5,000 per day.
