Leh, Oct 4: A Health Walk/Run was organised today in Leh under the ‘Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat – 100 Sundays Campaign’, with the theme ‘My Health, My Pride’, to promote physical fitness, healthy lifestyles, positive youth engagement and awareness against substance abuse among young people. The Health Walk/Run commenced from Singay Namgyal Chowk, Leh, and was flagged off by Ms Bhanu Prabha, Secretary, Higher Education, Technical Education & Skill Development, The campaign is a nationwide youth engagement initiative being implemented through MY Bharat to promote healthy, responsible and substance-free lifestyles. Welcoming the participants, Ms Tajamul Ara, State Director, MY Bharat Ladakh, appreciated the enthusiastic participation of youth and acknowledged the support and coordination of officers and officials of the UT Administration in organising the programme. Tajamul Ara is the State Director, MY Bharat Ladakh. The Health Walk/Run witnessed the participation of more than 800 youth, MY Bharat volunteers, officials and members of the community. Participants were engaged through Nukkad Nataks, cultural activities and awareness messages along the route, highlighting the importance of healthy lifestyles and staying away from substance abuse. The programme also featured a mass pledge, reaffirming the participants’ commitment to maintaining a healthy, active and addiction-free lifestyle. The programme also featured a mass pledge by the participants, who resolved to refrain from consuming harmful intoxicating substances and to encourage others to stay away from substance abuse.
They also pledged to contribute actively towards the Nasha Mukt Bharat initiative by creating awareness among their families, friends and neighbours, reaffirming their collective commitment to promoting healthy, aware and empowered youth and building a drug-free India. Addressing the gathering, Secretary Bhanu Prabha emphasised the need for sustained efforts to sensitise young people about the harmful consequences of substance abuse. She noted that youth today face several pressures, including competition in education and sports, peer influence and increasing exposure to addictive substances, making awareness and early intervention particularly important. She urged students and young people to make healthy choices, remain actively involved in sports and education, and resist temptations and peer pressure that could lead to substance abuse. Stressing that the protection of one’s health and life must remain the foremost priority, she called upon youth to become responsible ambassadors of a healthy and drug-free society. Bhanu Prabha further emphasised that the message of a Nasha Mukt Bharat must reach schools, colleges, families and communities, with teachers, parents, community leaders and young people playing an active role in creating awareness and supporting those vulnerable to substance abuse. She also urged participants to take the pledge seriously and translate its message into action by avoiding harmful intoxicating substances and encouraging their friends, families, relatives, neighbours and others in their communities to remain aware of the ill effects of substance abuse. The programme concluded at NDS Ground, Leh, where the concluding activities were held. The event reinforced the campaign’s broader objective of encouraging regular physical activity, preventive health practices, mental well-being, positive peer engagement and constructive use of leisure time among youth. |
