| Semiconductor push, Make in India mark major milestones under Modi Govt: Khatana | | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Oct 5: Rajya Sabha Member and BJP leader Engineer Ghulam Ali Khatana on Sunday highlighted India's growing capabilities in the semiconductor and manufacturing sectors, saying the developments under the Narendra Modi-led government are strengthening the country's position in advanced technology and manufacturing. Khatana said India's semiconductor mission has progressed from announcements towards production, commercialisation and localisation. Semiconductor projects worth around Rs 1.65 lakh crore are being developed across six states, while India accounts for nearly 20 per cent of the global chip-design and VLSI workforce. He said the growth of the semiconductor ecosystem is creating opportunities for Indian engineers, researchers and technology companies and is strengthening the country's role in critical technology. On Make in India, Khatana pointed to the performance of the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) schemes, which, according to the government figures cited in the report, have attracted Rs 2.58 lakh crore investment, generated Rs 23.79 lakh crore in production and sales, Rs 15.53 lakh crore in exports and 14.57 lakh jobs. He also highlighted the expansion of India's electronics industry, with electronics production rising from Rs 1.9 lakh crore to Rs 13.11 lakh crore, while electronics exports increased from Rs 38,000 crore to Rs 4.24 lakh crore. "These developments reflect the government's focus on Atmanirbhar Bharat and Viksit Bharat, while creating new opportunities in technology, manufacturing and innovation," Khatana said. He said the continued expansion of semiconductor manufacturing, electronics production and other strategic industries would further strengthen India's domestic industrial base and its integration with global technology and manufacturing supply chains. |
