| IGP flags off Special Olympics athletes | | | Early Times Report Jammu, June 21: A contingent comprised of 40 special athletes (mentally challenged) intellectually challenged and 12 special coaches are going to participated in nation coaching camp for BOCCE- An event of Special Olympics sports/ game for male and female from 21st June to 28th June 2009 at Amritsar (Punjab) under the banner of Special Olympics Bharat –J&K Chapter. It is a matter of pride for all natives of J&K State that for the second time in history of Special Olympics Bharat of the state are representing at national level. Inspector General of Police (IGP) Jammu zone K. Rajendra flagged off the contingent. Speaking on the occasion, Rajendra termed this effort of Special Olympics Bharat J&K Chapter as an excellent beginning for such special children of the state who will see the new dawn in their lives, the tireless efforts as well as voluntary approach of special Olympics Bharat J&K Chapter and its management deserve all the praise for such a unique discipline in the world of sports especially to explore the hidden talent of mentally challenged extended all supports to the special Olympics movement in the state. Chairman of Special Olympics Bharat J&K chapter Ram Sahai also blessed the special athletes and appraised IGP regarding the obstacles in the way to make this movement a grand success. Sahai also appealed people of the society to come forward to join this historic movement founded by Eunice Shriver, Sister of former USA president (Late) John F. Kennedy in 1963 which is absolutely based volunteerism under the dynamic chairmanship of Air Marshall (Retd) Danzin Keelor- National Chairman and Gp Capt Colly da Souza National Director. Dr. Ashvini Jojra State President of Special Olympics expressed his optimism that the day is not far away when the special athletes of J&K will bring laurels to the state by winning gold medals in the national and international special events. Dr. Jojra on behalf of management conveyed sincere thanks to Mr. K. Rajendra, IGP for providing transport facility. The contingent is leaving under the leadership of Er. Mahesh Kinth- Area Director/ Secretary of SOB. The special athletes participating in the present event are belonging to Prerna institute of rehabilitation & research sahyog India R.S. Pura, Sahara special school, Rotary inner wheel home for M R children, St. Johns rehabilitation centre of Jammu Distt, Asha special school of Udhampur, Sahyog rehabilitation centre of kathua, Life help centre for the child care, Shafaqat special school of Srinagar, Helpline humanity welfare organization of Anantnag and Jammu, Udhampur, Kathua, Srinagar & Anantnag special Olympics associations. For this al a commendable support is rendered by J&K Police by arranging transport facility from Jammu to Amritsar and back.
