Early Times Report AKHNOOR, Oct 5: MLA Akhnoor Mohan Lal today met Chief Engineer of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), Brigadier R.K. Mishra, and strongly took up the issue of the poor condition of the Garkhal-Parghwal-Gurha Manhasa road. During the meeting, the MLA highlighted the damage caused to the road due to last year's floods, which left several stretches with deep potholes and made commuting difficult for residents. He said the road is a vital link for the people of Parghwal, Laz and Garkhal areas and connects nearly 50,000 people with Jammu. Mohan Lal said patients, schoolchildren, employees and other commuters are facing considerable hardships due to the deteriorated condition of the road. He informed the BRO Chief Engineer that he had also provided Rs 20 lakh from his Constituency Development Fund (CDF) for repair works. The MLA pointed out that the road was earlier under the Public Works Department but, despite its strategic importance due to its proximity to the International Border, regular maintenance could not be carried out effectively. He had been pursuing the matter for handing over the road to the BRO, and the road has recently been transferred to the organization. |
