| PK for de-linking Kashmir from Indo-Pak engagement | | | Early Times Report Jammu, June 21- Expressing grave concern over some impressions emanating from different quarters in India about some settlement between India and Pakistan on Jammu and Kashmir issue, Panun Kashmir (PK) opined that India should de- link Kashmir from Indo-Pak engagement. The growth of Jihadi elements in Pakistan is not only an outcome of the control of military over the Pakistani state, it is primarily linked to the ideological nature of Pakistan and its claim over Kashmir is a cardinal expression of the same ideology, PK maintained. At an interactive seminar organized by PK at the Press Club here today the participants focused their discussion on the issue of handling Jammu and Kashmir- Contours and implications. In his presidential address Panun Kashmir Chairman Dr. Ajay Chrungoo said ‘linking of resolution of Kashmir issue with the improvement in situation in Pakistan and Jammu and Kashmir is a dangerous formulation. Accepting the locus standi of Pakistan on Kashmir is tantamount to accepting the failure of secular vision of India’, he added. Chrungoo said ‘the time is ripe that India asserts to de-link Kashmir from Indo-Pak engagement. The growth of Jehadi elements in Pakistan is not only an outcome of the control of military over the Pakistani state, it is primarily linked to the ideological nature of Pakistan and its claim over Kashmir is a cardinal expression of the same ideology’, he added. The PK Chairman further asserted that in case Pakistan has to emerge as a liberal and stable state then it has to be persuaded to change its outlook about India and the world. ‘This change’, he stated, ‘cannot take place unless Kashmir is de-linked from its perspective . The talk of non territorial solution smacks of the permissiveness in the mindset of some elements in India for a solution that envisages ideological concessions to Pakistan by taking precedence over territorial concessions’, he said adding that history is witness to the fact that if a nation allows fiddling with its ideology and outlook it eventually paves way for dissolution of its resolve to defend its territory. Among others, who spoke at the seminar, included Prof Hari Om, Prof Dipankar Sengupta, Dr. Arun Joshi and former Director General Police M M Khajuria. Senior vice chairman of PK Shaliendra Aima moderated the discussion. The participants at the seminar deliberated upon various aspects of handling of Jammu and Kashmir by Government of India and also debated the Pakistani dimension and India’s response, especially the Track 2- channel.
