| Ansari first VP to visit Kargil | | | N. PRASANGI Kargil, 21 May- The visit of Vice President Hamid Ansari, made history as it was the first ever visit by the Vice President of our country to Kargil. The State guest was accompanied by Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, NN Vohra, Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Omar Abdullah and Divisional Commissioner of Kashmir, Masood Samoon. The Vice President on his arrival to Kargil was extended a warm traditional welcome by the Execuitive Councilior Kachoo Ahmed Khan, representatives of LAHDC, MP Ghulam Hassan Khan, Qumar Ali Akhoon, MLA Feroz Ahmed Khan, members of political parties, various religious representatives and senior Army personnel. Before his address to the army troops of Kargil, the Vice President was welcomed by the GOC of the Division. During his address to the troops of Kargil he mentioned that “the country is proud of its soldiers deployed at such far flung areas guarding our borders and giving the people of our country peaceful sleep by being ever vigilant”. Speaking further he said that “I assure that we all are satisfied by the tasks being performed by our Indian soldiers”. Hamid Ansari made a statement which further brought a wave of happiness when he mentioned that “ Indain Army is no less than any other army of the world”. Concluding his speech he also conveyed thanks to the families of the soldiers of the Indian Army. Moving out to the Circuit House, he was welcomed by the thousands of school children who were standing on the out skirts of the road waving the tricolour. He met delegations of various religious, political, social and others. Delegations discussed various issues where the main points discussed were Zojilla tunnel, airport extension, regular air civil service from Kargil, opening of Skardu road, vacation of Khurbathang Plateau for handing over to the civil administration as also the issue of firing range to be changed from the present location and expansion of Kargil town.
